Royal Naval Captain's Hat with Original Box

This is an original piece, which appears to be from the time period of the 1850s to 1880s and is not a reproduction. The hat belonged to Captain Dicken of the Royal Navy. The original felt lined metal box contains the hat, shoulder board, shoulder braid, and sword strap.

Also, as you can see from the photo above - in the box is a piece
of braid from a later hat, which is not part of the set.

The box has metal emblem on lid with a British crest and seal in the middle
with the following written around the outside & topped with a crown:

"J. Gieve & Sons Ltd. - Portsmouth London & Devonport"

Also, there is a brass plaque attached to the lid of the box that is engraved with:

"REGd. NO. 408847"
"Capt C.G. Dicken - R.N."

There are two compartments inside with lift up felt covered lids, inside there are various parts of straps and braiding. The hat does have some wear and the braiding is tarnished as expected. The box has one loose hinge but is in good shape otherwise.
